Got mixed feelings about this.
Plan was to fly to Perth, have a fortnight with my boy then fly to Melbourne to catch up with the Mrs and her tribe, taking in the boxing day test at the MCG. Obviously not happening now.
Thanks Covid!!
As for the cricket,it should be a decent series tho I think we'll be coming home urnless sadly.

England's fast bowlers are either broken and not there (Archer, Sone) or very fragile and about to break (Wood).
Our two best seamers have very poor records in Australia (Anderson 60 wickets at 35 , Broad 34 wickets at 37). Woakes even worse.10 wickets at 50.
As for spin, more chance of that at a party political conference, than from an England test bowler.
Only one batsman with a test and 2021 average in excess of 40
Only 3 others with a 2021 test average above 30! One of those a bowler (Woakes)
First innings totals in excess of 400, only 3 times in 2021 (12 tests) Bowled out for under 200, 9 times (both innings) Regularly rolled out, for under 100.
England have a shocking record in Australia, 2 series wins in over 40+ years
No Barmy Army to lift the players. Even the weather has messed up practice games.
Major embarrassment for the convicts, if they don't win the series 4 or 5 nil (weather permitting).

1 Batsman averaging over 37
80mph plodders
An average wicketkeeper who doesn't contribute enough with the bat
A poor captain (albeit great player)
Bring it on!

Bring on the rain!
Chef said Ollie Robinson is the key. Hopes he might be able to get more out of the pitch off a length (bowl like aussie paceman in their conditions).

Bumble reckons the first test conditions should suit England.
Personally I Still think the England batting line up is too brittle to win the series.

Do you support England in cricket, goose? Seeing as the wops don’t have a team.

Trunds
Pink ball will swing under the lights in Adelaide - not much for his at Brisbane, unless the rain has changed conditions a lot.
I guess the thinking is the old boy doesn't have 5 tests in him.

I know his record is shocking at the Gabba, but I'd have still picked him.

Think Jimmy has said he'll play 3 out of 5 tests, with the 5th test possibly being a day/nighter now I'm not surprised he's missing this one

Must be one of the most under cooked test series ever... never known such a lack of cricket before a big series...

I get the "horses for courses" approach taken by England over Jimmy Anderson. IF that's what happened.
But I still think it's a mistake not playing him in the opening test IF, as they say, he's fully fit. If they consider him still to be among their best XI then he should start the opener - even if the pitch is not perfectly suited to him. It's crucial to get off to the best start possible - even a draw in the opener - otherwise, history shows, England get steamtrolled down under.
Not only that but, at 39, Jimmy is unlikely to last a full series as a quick bowler. He's already very injury prone and the more he bowls, in matches or in the nets, the longer the tour goes on, the more likely he is to pick up an injury. There's no point "saving" him for the later tests if he's fit now and ready to go - because, in all likelihood, he won't be later.
My gut feeling is that he's NOT 100% right now and they're already worried about him before the tests start.
Irrespective, I cannot see this England squad winning down under, as undercooked as they are. It will be 3-0 Australia and the pressure will start straight away because the Aussies will win this opener.
